Cookies are small text files stored in your browser by websites you visit. They are widely used to make websites work, remember your preferences, and — on many commercial sites — to track your behaviour for advertising purposes.
RiskBrief does not use cookies for advertising or tracking. We use only what is strictly necessary to keep the service working.
We use two browser storage mechanisms: sessionStorage and localStorage. These are not traditional cookies but serve similar purposes.
| Name | Storage Type | Purpose | Duration | Category |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| rb-auth | sessionStorage | Stores your authentication token to keep you signed in during your session | Until tab is closed | Essential |
| rb-username | sessionStorage | Stores your username/email to personalise the interface | Until tab is closed | Essential |
| rb-plan | sessionStorage | Stores your plan type to display the correct features and limits | Until tab is closed | Essential |
| rb-credits | sessionStorage | Stores your credit balance for display in the navigation | Until tab is closed | Essential |
| rb-hasAccess | sessionStorage | Indicates whether your account has active access to generate dossiers | Until tab is closed | Essential |
| rb-monthly-remaining | sessionStorage | Stores your remaining monthly dossier count for display | Until tab is closed | Essential |
| rb-cookie-consent | localStorage | Remembers whether you have accepted or declined the cookie banner | Persistent (until cleared) | Essential |
When you make a payment, you are redirected to Stripe's hosted checkout page. Stripe may set their own cookies on their domain as part of their fraud prevention and payment processing. These are governed by Stripe's Privacy Policy and are outside our control.
No other third-party services on risk-brief.com set cookies.
When you first visit RiskBrief, a banner appears asking for your consent to our use of essential cookies. Your choice is stored in localStorage as rb-cookie-consent.
If you decline cookies, sessionStorage items (authentication tokens) are still used as they are technically necessary for the service to function — without them you cannot stay signed in. The only item affected by declining is rb-cookie-consent itself, which records your preference.
You can control and delete cookies through your browser settings. Note that blocking all cookies or localStorage may prevent you from staying signed in to RiskBrief.
You can also clear all RiskBrief session data by signing out, which clears all sessionStorage items immediately.
If we change how we use cookies or browser storage in a material way, we will update this policy and notify registered users by email.
